East China Sea - East China Sea - Economic aspects: The East China Sea is a region of high marine-life productivity, and China, Japan, and North and South Korea actively fish in the area. Most of the fishing is done by small local boats, although larger trawlers are also used. Tuna, mackerel, shrimps, sardines, milkfish, sea breams, croakers, shellfish, and seaweeds are the main resources.   This issue is already a problem in the South China Sea where Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed on a continental shelf boundary east of the Natuna islands, but no EEZ boundary.

The East China Sea (ECS) is a shallow stratified continental shelf environment that receives massive loads of nutrients from the Yangtze River (Cai et al., ). For example, inputs of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) fromthe YangtzeRiver increasedabout ninefoldfrom × Cited by: China defended on Thursday its drills in East China Sea, saying that its naval ships out in the East China Sea did not violate international laws and posed no threat to other countries. Title = {Continental shelf issues in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea}, author = {Park, C.}, abstractNote = {The wildcat competition for oil among the coastal states of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea threatens to expose the Continental Shelf Convention to a test much harder than the one imposed on it by the North Sea Continental Shelf Cases.

The Yellow Sea (YS) and East China Sea (ECS) together constitute one of the world's most extensive continental shelves.

The Huanghe and Changjiang Rivers deliver abundant freshwater, billions of tons of sediment, and heavy metals (Liu et al., a, Yang and Liu,Cao et al.,Wang et al Cited by: The strongest front usually occurs in May each year and its temperature gradient is about 5–6°C over a cross-shelf distance of 30 nautical miles.

The Yellow Sea mixed cold water also provides a contrast from China Coastal waters shoreward of the 50 m isobath; cross-shore temperature gradient is about 6–8°C over 30 nautical miles.

In the East China Sea shelf region, these recent studies indicate that in winter the Tsushima Warm Current has a single source, the Kuroshio Branch Current in the west of Kyushu, which transports a mixture of Kuroshio Water and Changjiang River Diluted Water by: A three-dimensional mixed finite-difference Galerkin function model for the oceanic circulation in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea • ARTICLE Continental Shelf Research, Vol Issue 8, 10 JunePages   This submission of the Chinese Government is without prejudice to any future submission by China on delineation of the outer limits of the continental shelf in [the] East China Sea.

Yellow Sea, large inlet of the western Pacific Ocean lying between mainland China on the west and north and the Korean peninsula on the east. It is situated to the north of the East China Sea, which it bounds on a line running from the mouth of the Yangtze River (Chiang Jiang) to Cheju Island off.

The Yellow Sea also had large numbers of megafaunas like sea turtles and other marine mammals that have dramatically reduced by illegal and direct hunting as well as pollution.

That remain today include spotted seals, false killer whales, killer whales, finless porpoises and minke whales but they are also critically endangered in the area. Jia J-J, Wang Y P, Gao S () Fine-grained sediment flux and cycling on the East China Sea continental shelf: an overview (in Chinese).

The width of the continental shelf of China in the East China Sea, the document says, is measured more than nautical miles from the baselines of the territorial sea of China.

On the south, the Yellow Sea borders on the East China Sea along the line formed by the southwestern tip of Korea, Cheju Island, and the continental shore north of.

The East China Sea which covers a total area ofsquare kilometers is a semi-closed sea lying between the eastern coast of Chinas mainland and the Pacific Ocean, bounded on the west by China, on the east by the Kyushu and the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, and on the north by Jichu Island of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Yellow Sea, and connected with the South China Sea by the Taiwan.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Sunday that China has decided to submit its Partial Submission Concerning the Outer Limits of the Continental Shelf beyond Nautical Miles in the East China Sea to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The East China Sea is a marginal sea east of China. The East China Sea is a part of the Pacific Ocean and covers an area of roughly 1, square kilometres (, sq mi). To the east lies the Japanese island of Kyushu and the Ryukyu Islands, to the south lies the South China Sea, and to the west lies the Asian : 동중국해.

China has not taken an official position on the status China and Japan began holding bilateral talks about the East China Sea issues in Octoberalthough Taiwan did not participate.

The extended continental shelf claims made by China and South Korea do complicate the issue and add another layer to the dispute. I believe China has already filed its extended shelf claim for the Yellow Sea but South Korea, while indicating it will on a few occasions, has yet to do so but has said it will be soon.

The Yellow Sea, known as the West Sea to Korea, is a semi-enclosed sea area, located between the mainland of China and the Korean Peninsula, which constitutes the northern extent of the East China Sea.
